Comparison

Control.dev vs OneStream

One enterprise platform for the statutory close and the plan, against consolidated, transaction-level actuals that your team and its AI client work on.

Verdict

OneStream fits a large group that needs a multi-GAAP statutory close with reconciliations, tax and ESG on one enterprise platform, with a team or partner to run it.

Control.dev fits a group that wants consolidated, transaction-level actuals, the three-statement plan and AI on the ledgers its entities run, changed by its own team; the two can run side by side.

Why we compare planning and EPM platforms on these topics

TopicOneStreamControl.dev
01 Where the actuals come fromMore than 250 sources, drill-back on direct connectors OneStream says it integrates with more than 250 ERP, CRM and other sources1, and its direct connectors to systems such as SAP, Oracle and Infor drill back to transaction detail2.Consolidated from the ledgers, open to every entry Control.dev reads each ledger with read-only access by default, consolidates the group with eliminations and CTA, opens every group figure to its transactions and syncs at least daily.
02 Who changes the model, and who does the workConfiguration as professional services OneStream’s agreement treats integration and configuration beyond standard support as professional services3, its partners are implementation specialists4, and OnePass sells prepaid consulting hours that expire at the end of the term5.Your finance team, or your AI client Your finance team edits the functional P&L, its allocation keys and a layout per audience, AI suggests the account mapping, Claude drafts a dashboard you apply or discard, and there are no consultants to pay.
03 Versions, scenarios and the three statementsPlanning on the same platform OneStream’s platform covers financial close and consolidation, FP&A, and ESG reporting and planning6, with SensibleAI Forecast among its AI tools7.Three statements planned together, versions you can lock The P&L, balance sheet and cash flow are planned together, scenarios are kept as versions with their history, a locked version refuses every write, and an AI client drafts values with a reason on each.
04 AI: what the client may read, draft and changeSensibleAI Agents and MCP from version 9.3 Four SensibleAI Agents became generally available on 19 May 2026, with an MCP layer that gives Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini governed access to OneStream data8, from Platform Version 9.39.Claude, ChatGPT or Codex with the user’s own role MCP is included in every price plan and works with the user’s role. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger, and traces what needs attention to the entries. A read-only session rejects writes, budget values are drafted with a reason, the client reviews a month’s bookings on request and drafts the board pack, and write-back posts only drafts an Owner or Admin approved.
05 Contract and cost of changeThree-year renewals, invoiced a year ahead OneStream’s standard US agreement renews automatically for three-year periods unless notice is given 60 days before the term ends, with an uplift in each renewal year of 5% or the CPI increase, whichever is greater10, invoices the service annually in advance11, and its site shows no prices12.Public prices, billed monthly, no partner hours EUR 249, 499 and 999 a month excluding VAT, on one page, with no setup fee, no multi-year contract and a notice period from one month, and our team sets you up so most companies have live data in under two hours.

Control.dev consolidates the ledgers a group already runs into one group view with eliminations.

How teams start: next to the platform

  1. 1 Most of our customers started next to the system they had, with AI analysis on consolidated, transaction-level actuals.
  2. 2 The plan follows when the team is ready, in locked versions beside the actuals.
  3. 3 Use spreads from there, process by process, and for several customers Control.dev became the official group reporting tool. The platform stays for as long as the contract and the team want it.

Where OneStream is the better choice

  • A multi-GAAP statutory close, with account reconciliations, transaction matching, tax reporting and ESG on one platform1314. Control.dev is built for the monthly group view.
  • Groups centred on SAP, Oracle, Infor or Microsoft Dynamics, with direct connectors that drill back to transaction detail2. Control.dev reads the accounting ledgers listed under Questions.
  • Audits that ask for SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports or FedRAMP High15, and technical support by phone around the clock, except on public holidays16.

When teams look at Control.dev

From what finance teams have told us about the moment they started looking. We name no customers.

  • Next to OneStream, not instead of it. A large group kept consolidation, budgets and variances in OneStream and added Control.dev for day-to-day work on the transactions behind a number.
  • They wanted AI on the transactions themselves, for example asking Claude to match advances against revenue or to look for duplicate postings.

Which fits your finance team

Choose OneStream if you are a large group with a multi-GAAP statutory close, many ERPs and a team or partner to run the platform.

Choose Control.dev if you want consolidated, transaction-level actuals, the three-statement plan and AI on the ledgers your entities already use, changed by your own team at a published monthly price.

Working with Control.dev

  • Live in hours or days, not months Our team sets Control.dev up with you. Most companies have live data in under two hours from the first call, a larger group takes days, the hardest a few weeks, and there is no setup fee at any size. The comparison hub shows how long each vendor says its own rollout takes.
  • Prices on one page, nothing billed on the side EUR 249, 499 and 999 a month excluding VAT, on the pricing page, with no multi-year contract and a notice period from one month. Support, user changes and settings changes are in the price, and nothing is billed per ticket or per request.
  • Close support from the people who build the product Your questions go to the team that builds Control.dev, most are answered within minutes and almost all the same day, and we work through accounting and group-structure questions with you, not only software questions.
  • Your AI client on a structure built for group accounting Claude, ChatGPT or Codex works on Control.dev over an MCP built and tested for group accounting. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger: it finds what needs attention and traces it to the entries, within the access your role allows.
  • Built with the finance teams that use it, at pace Our roadmap comes from our customers, demanding finance professionals, and a gap in a feature list is the best news we can get. A missing feature typically ships in days and a larger one in weeks. A ledger connector we would build anyway comes at no extra cost; today Control.dev connects Netvisor, Procountor, Easor (Talenom), Fortnox, Spiris (formerly Visma eEkonomi), Tripletex, e-conomic, Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Odoo, Xledger and NetSuite, plus Stripe.
  • A younger product, and who it is for Control.dev is built by Finata Oy in Helsinki since 2024, by a team from finance roles and finance systems. It fits a team that already works with AI tools, or wants to, and would rather not keep data engineers or system consultants for its reporting. If AI is not something your company wants to work with, we are probably the wrong partner, and where another tool covers more than Control.dev, the page above says so.

What switching looks like

  1. 1 Run both side by side for a period. Control.dev reads your ledgers with read-only access by default, so OneStream and your ledgers stay as they are while you compare the numbers. The 30-day free trial covers up to three integrations.
  2. 2 Send us screenshots of the three or four reports your board already knows, and we rebuild them in Control.dev first, so the first month looks familiar.
  3. 3 Your contract and notice period decide when you leave the current tool. Control.dev has no implementation fee and no multi-year contract, and its notice period starts from one month, so the parallel run can start well before then.

Questions

Is Control.dev a OneStream alternative?

For the monthly group view, three-statement planning and AI on the ledgers your entities run, yes. For a statutory close under US GAAP and IFRS with reconciliations and ESG in one system, no: OneStream covers those136. OneStream says more than 1,900 companies use it, including 18% of the Fortune 50017. Control.dev is younger and smaller, founded in 2024, and built for groups that want consolidation, planning and AI on the ledgers they already run.

What do setup and later changes cost?

With Control.dev, our team sets you up with no setup fee, and most companies have live data in under two hours. Later changes to a mapping, a layout or a dashboard are made by your team or its AI client, with no consultants to pay. OneStream says CPM Express typically deploys in 8 to 12 weeks at a predictable cost18, and its agreement invoices professional services separately from the subscription11. Control.dev publishes its monthly prices, excluding VAT: EUR 249 for one entity and one integration, EUR 499 for consolidation with three integrations and EUR 999 with five, where a Stripe connection counts as one integration, with no implementation fee, no multi-year contract and a notice period from one month.

Can Claude or ChatGPT work on our numbers?

With both, in different ways. OneStream says its MCP finance tools let ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini work with OneStream data and workflows from Platform Version 9.39. In Control.dev, Claude, ChatGPT and Codex work over MCP on every price plan with the user’s role, from the statements down to the transactions, and draft budget values with a reason on each. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger. For teams that already use Claude or ChatGPT, Control.dev is the consolidated, transaction-level data their AI client works on, so nobody has to build and maintain that layer. The product docs show how to connect each client.

Can we keep OneStream for the statutory close and run Control.dev next to it?

Yes, for entities on ledgers Control.dev connects to: Netvisor, Procountor, Easor (Talenom), Fortnox, Spiris (formerly Visma eEkonomi), Tripletex, e-conomic, Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Odoo, Xledger and NetSuite, plus Stripe for billing data. Control.dev reads those books with read-only access by default, so nothing changes in the ledgers or in OneStream. For entities on SAP, Oracle or another system without a connector, talk to us first about how their numbers come in.

Can budget owners plan their own lines?

Not in Control.dev yet. Budget-owner access, where a cost-centre owner sees and budgets only their own lines, is in testing and not yet live. Until then, the finance team plans the budget, and an AI client can draft values with a reason on each.

Where is the data stored and processed?

OneStream’s Service Description Guide sets Western Europe as the default region for customers in Europe, with failover to Northern Europe19. Control.dev’s data is hosted on Google Cloud in Hamina, Finland, encrypted in transit and at rest, and Control.dev’s own AI features process data in the EU. An AI client you connect over MCP processes what it reads under your agreement with its provider. Finata Oy’s security management is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified.

What support do we get?

Close support on every plan. Your questions go to the team that builds Control.dev, most are answered within minutes and almost all the same day, and we work through accounting and group-structure questions with you, not only software questions. Support, user changes and settings changes are in the price, and Enterprise adds a dedicated Slack channel and priority support.
