Control over MCP

Claude on the whole group

Connect Claude to the Control.dev MCP server and ask about every entity’s ledger, already consolidated: statements first, every figure open to the transactions behind it. In a write session Claude can also save budget values, each with its reason, and comments. It signs in with your own Control login, and your role applies.

Control.dev is a group consolidation and FP&A platform for multi-entity groups. EPM for the AI era. Built in the Nordics. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI clients use to connect to tools and data. Works in Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code.

Use cases

What Claude does on Control today

Claude keeps skills and Project instructions, so a recurring job is written once and runs the same way each month. Each job below is in the product docs with its prompt and checks.

  • A month-end review, saved as a skill

Save the close review as a skill or in a Project’s instructions, and Claude runs the same checks every month: unusual entries, possible missing accruals and prepaid expenses, each with the transactions behind it. In a write session it leaves each finding as a comment on the cell it affects.

    Close review guide
  • A board pack from the review

Claude checks close readiness, reads the statement comments and drafts the pack: variances explained in the words of the answered threads, open threads listed as open items.

    Board pack guide
  • An Excel model from the ledger

Claude builds an editable workbook with code execution or in Claude Code: source sheets from Control’s statements, budgets and cash flow, formulas for every derived value, and reconciliation checks.

What Claude can read and change

Claude reads the consolidated statements and cash flow, budgets with their reasons, comments, invoices and Stripe entries. In a write session it can save budget values, comments, manual transactions, imports and dashboard drafts, as your role allows; file imports run from Claude’s code execution once an Owner allows api.control.dev.

Your role in Control sets the ceiling, a read-only session gets no write tools, and a locked version refuses every write. Every client gets the same tools: the full read and write list.

Settings

Before you rely on it

Three settings decide what Claude can do once it is connected.

  • Read-only

Read-only is the header Mcp-Requested-Access: read on every MCP request. Where your Claude surface lets you set request headers, set it there; where it does not, ask your administrator or us for a connection that enforces read-only access. Refresh the tools afterwards: a read-only session has no write tools. Changing it means reconnecting.

    Access and permissions
  • File imports

Claude uploads a transaction or budget file from its code execution straight to api.control.dev, not through MCP. An Owner adds api.control.dev under Organization settings, Capabilities, Code execution; it applies to new conversations. Reading and single writes work without it.

    Allow file uploads
  • One workspace per connection

The server URL carries your workspace. Control checks it against your memberships and refuses the connection if it does not match, so copy the URL from the workspace you mean.

    Troubleshooting
First questions

Three prompts to start with

  1. 01Show consolidated revenue by month for January through June 2026.
  2. 02Why did personnel costs change between May and June? Show the supporting transactions.
  3. 03Compare operating profit for Finland Oy and US Inc.

Name a company and Claude picks the entity tools; otherwise it answers for the whole group. On NetSuite or Xero? NetSuite MCP and Xero MCP show what Claude gets from each ledger alone and what the group adds.

Skills

Save the recurring jobs

A skill is a set of saved instructions in Claude: which Control tools to call for a recurring job and what to check before answering. It grants no access of its own. Three to start with:

All thirteen with the tools each calls: Finance skills. Every finance tool the server exposes: MCP tools. The other clients and the ledger pages: MCP. Copyable instructions: skills in the product docs.

Questions

What teams ask before they connect Claude

Ask us about connecting Claude
Which Claude surfaces work?

Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Claude.ai and Claude Desktop connect Control as a custom connector, which Anthropic offers on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. Claude Code connects with one claude mcp add command.

Do we need an administrator?

On a Team plan, an Owner adds the connector once, and members connect to it, each with their own Control login. File imports also need an Owner to allow api.control.dev for code execution.

Why does sign-in fail with an authorized-party error?

Claude tried to sign in without the registered client. Add the client ID from Data outputs, then MCP Server, to the connection and sign in again. If that page shows no client ID, registering one is part of setup: ask us.

Can Claude change our numbers?

Only within your role, and Claude asks before it writes. What Claude can read and change has the list.

Where is the data processed?

Anthropic processes what Claude reads under your agreement with Anthropic, and Control’s own AI processes data in the EU (security at Control.dev).

What does it cost?

There is no separate MCP fee: MCP access, budgets and forecasts come with every plan. The pricing page lists the self-serve plans, a group with more than the five ledgers the Enterprise plan includes gets a quote, and the 30-day trial needs no card.

Connect Claude to your group

Start the trial and connect one ledger, or book 30 minutes and we connect Claude to a four-ledger sample group with you.

  • 1. Start the 30-day trial No credit card.
  • 2. Connect your first ledger Yourself, or with us on a call.
  • 3. Add Control to Claude The server URL and the client ID from Data outputs, then MCP Server.
  • 4. Ask what you already know One company, one month, one figure. Check it in Control.

MCP access is in every plan. Self-serve plans are on the pricing page; groups with more than the five ledgers the Enterprise plan includes get a quote.
